titlePlanning to Purchase a Personal Computer?

If you're planning to purchase a personal computer, please review the minimum requirements recommended by IT Services for optimal performance and to meet the needs of your online courses.

Basic Tech Requirements

Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is Selkirk's Learning Management System (LMS). You may have access to your syllabus, course calendar, assignments and other course materials and functions via Moodle. Moodle is a web-based program; therefore, you will need a computer with Internet access and an Internet browser to use Moodle for your course.

These basic computer requirements are a general guideline for all courses. It is important to check with your instructor for specific hardware and software required for the course and/or program you are registered in.

You will need:

  • A device (computer, laptop, tablet) which meets Selkirk College's Recommended System & Computer Requirements.
    System Requirements:
    • minimum 2 GB of RAM
    • 1 GB of free hard disk space
    • Display: 1024 x 780 resolution
    • Highest display color quality
    • Windows XP or better, Mac OSX
    • Internet Service Provider with Cable or ADSL line

  2. Sound card with speakers or headphones may be required.
  3. Printer (recommended).
  4. Stable high-speed internet access.
  5. JavaScript must be enabled.  See Mozilla support (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/javascript-settings-for-interactive-web-pages).
