IT SERVICES UPDATE

March 18, 2020

IT Services is now requesting Deans & Chairs to submit requests for deploying temporary desktops to critical staff to support alternative delivery methods for programs. Availability is extremely limited.

  • Desktops include: web cameras, speakers and a microphone to support video conferencing.
  • IT Services recommends staff source headsets with microphones for enhanced content delivery for conferencing. The desktops feature both USB 2.0, bluetooth and 3.5mm audio connectivity.

To request a temporary desktop, please submit a ticket to the IT Service Centre.  Once a ticket has been submitted, IT Services will contact the staff member to schedule the deployment.

We are excited to provide information and resources through an area within the Knowledge Centre dedicated to supporting this transition to temporary teaching, learning and working.

  • We will let you know when we are ready to unveil this new knowledge area, easily accessible from work, home or your device.

A site license for Zoom access will also be available for all staff hopefully by the end of the week to support video conferencing between staff and students with training resources to follow.

  • Staff that have a pre-existing license for Zoom will receive a request to merge their Zoom account with the Selkirk College site license, please merge accounts to ensure your videos and pre-existing meetings are migrated to the Selkirk College site license. We have been assured that staff will continue to have access to any content already available on their own Zoom account.

IT Services has enabled temporary Microsoft OneDrive access for all Selkirk College staff to assist with storing work data in the cloud.

  • Please note this storage is available temporarily to assist with alternative delivery methods.
  • Microsoft OneDrive training resources are available within the Knowledge Centre.
