Layout

  1. New page
    • The default is for every 5 questions, but the drop down menu provides options for up to 50 questions on a page.
    • Placing a check mark in 'Re-paginate now', will put in to effect the new setting.
    • Re-pagination can also be changed manually once the questions have been moved into the quiz.
    • You can also change the number of questions per page at the edit quiz page.

      Select 'Show more'...

  2. Navigation Method
    • Free: Students can go through the quiz in any order.
    • Sequential: Students must navigate through the quiz in the order presented.  They cannot return to a question, nor can they jump ahead.

Question Behaviour

Note: There is an advanced option for this group.  Click on 'Show more...' to see it.

  1. Shuffle within questions:
This is applicable to multiple choice or matching questions. Answers are shuffled each time the quiz is opened. Note: if you invoke this option on a multiple choice quiz, take care not to have '(d) All of the above' as the last question....it could be shuffled into the (a) position.

  2. How Questions behave:
There are eight options; the default is "Deferred Feedback" (recommended).
    • Adaptive Mode: A student can try multiple responses to a question within the same attempt at the quiz.  If you have feedback showing immediately (see Review options) they can repeatedly change their answer.  Normally, if using this function,  a penalty factor would be set.  For each attempted wrong answer the student score is reduced.
    • Adaptive Mode (no penalties):  As above, without penalties
    • Deferred Feedback: The student answers each question and then submits the entire quiz, before anything is graded or they receive any feedback.
    • Immediate Feedback:  The student can submit their response immediately during the quiz attempt, and it will be graded. However  they can only submit one response; they cannot change it later.
    • Deferred Feedback or Immediate Feedback with Certainty-Based Marking (CBM): With CBM, the student does not only answer the question, but they also indicate how sure (certain) they are they have the correct answer. The grading is adjusted by the choice of certainty, so that students have to reflect honestly on their own level of knowledge in order to get the best mark.

    • Interactive with multiple tries: After submitting one answer, and reading the feedback, the student must click a 'Try again' button before they can try a new response. Once the student has answered the question correctly, they can no longer change their response. If the student has got the question wrong too many times or the question is graded wrong (or partially correct), students are shown the feedback and can no longer change their answer. There can be different feedback after each attempt the student makes.

Click "Show more" to display the Advanced options...

  3. Allow Redo Within An Attempt:  Useful for practice quizzes.  If enabled, when students have finished attempting a particular question, they will see a "Redo" question button. This allows them to attempt another version of the same question, without having to submit the entire quiz attempt and start another one.
  4. Each Attempt Builds On The Last: If this setting is "YES", AND multiple attempts have been set, then each new attempt will contain the answers of previous attempts.  Therefore a quiz can be completed over a longer period of time.
