Add a New Category

This section relates to organizing and creating the Test Bank of Questions.

Note: Create a category for quiz questions, do not use the default of the quiz name.  Using the default quiz name category, and deleting the quiz, results in all the questions being deleted!!!!

Categories are used to organize your questions, either by topic or test specific. Categories are required if you are going to use the "Random" question feature (i.e.: a comprehensive exam using questions from previous chapter/unit quizzes).

With the quiz open:

  • Quiz administration
  • Question bank
  • Categories

  • Add a Category
    • Re-position Categories: Categories can be re-positioned by using the up and down arrows.
    • Add a Sub-Category: Use the "Parent category" drop down menu to change the parent category.

Alternate Method For Adding Questions

Question Bank Categories

Each course will have a default category (Course level).  In addition a new category is created when you create a quiz (Quiz level) in the course.

Tip

Create categories based on topics or sections of your course.  For example a Category for Chapter 1 terms, or Mid-Term exams (not the default). Putting questions in created categories (at the course level) keeps them in the question bank, and not only associated with the link from the main content page.

In the example below the default category is: "Default for First Course"  (it is at the Quiz level).  The category to put this new terminology quiz in is:  "Terminology Quizzes".

The number in parentheses at the end of the category names indicates the number of questions in that category.
