Citrix allows Selkirk College students, faculty, and staff to access a virtual Windows computer or specialized application on their own personal computers securely from anywhere (on and off-campus) and from any platform (Mac OS, Windows, Chrome OS, Linux, etc.) using the Citrix Receiver and Workspace applications.

Note: Citrix server is based on Windows, meaning that non-Windows users may need to use Windows keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl+C instead of Cmd+C) while using the applications. 

  

Registering for Citrix

Student

In order to access Citrix Workspace with the Citrix Receiver you will need to:

  1. Contact the program instructor with your request
  2. Install the Citrix Workspace application

Faculty and Staff

Citrix access is limited and assigned on as-needed basis. Access is only required if your program requires access to specialized applications that are not user install-able their own personal computer. 

To register your program and enrolled students for access to Citrix resources, please complete the Citrix Access request form located here.

Note: You will need to re-register every academic year for access to resources. 

Navigating Citrix Workspace

Home Tab

The Citrix Home tab will display your favourite Apps or Desktops. 

App Tab

The Citrix Apps tab features access to specialized virtual application without launching a full Windows desktop.


Launching Citrix Virtual Applications
  1. Launch Citrix Workspace application and log in with your network username and password.
  2. Navigate to the Apps tab in Citrix Workspace.
  3. To open a virtual application, click on the application icon.

Desktop Tab

The Desktop tab features access to specialized applications via a full virtual Windows desktop environment.

Launching Citrix Remote Lab 
  1. Launch Citrix Workspace application and log in with your network username and password. 
  2. Navigate to the Desktops tab in Citrix Workspace. 
  3. To open a remote lab computer, click on the lab icon. 

Accessing Network Files and Drive Mappings 

Note: Only Citrix Remote Lab and Virtual Desktop allow access to files located on campus network drives. Users may elect to store permissible files on their personal Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage instead for easy access within the Citrix environment.

  1. To access your network drives while connected to a Citrix Remote Lab, click the taskbar caret (^), then right click on "Client for Open Enterprise Server", and then left-click"OES Login" as shown below. 



  2. Login to OES / Novell using your network username and password (e.g. johndoe for students, jdoe for staff).



    Now you should be successfully connected and your network drives mapped.

Software / Application access 

Software for specific programs can be accessed by a variety of means including: 

  1. On campus computer labs  - General purpose software access is available on campus in general purpose computer labs. 

    Note: Physically distanced computer labs are available at following locations (limited seating available): Castlegar campus BON-21, Silverking campus SK-118 & SK-119, Nelson 10th street campus P-200

  2. SEG computer lab - Specialized software access for the SEG program is available on campus in designated spaces for the SEG programs.
  3. Citrix Remote Lab - General Purpose - Remote access to general purpose software is provided by connection to a physical computer on-campus using Citrix.
  4. Citrix Virtual Application - Remote access to specialized software is provided by connection to virtual application in Citrix. 
  5. SEG Citrix Virtual Desktop - Remote access to a full virtual desktop with specialized SEG software in Citrix.
  6. Hospitality Citrix Virtual Desktop - Remote access to a full virtual desktop with specialized Hospitality software in Citrix.
  7. Pharmacy Tech Citrix Virtual Desktop - Remote access to a full virtual desktop with specialized Pharmacy Technician software in Citrix.
  8. Self-download  - Some software may be available to download for free or after registration with a student account. Please consult your program instructor for availability.

Instructors requesting access to Citrix Virtual Applications or Desktop should select one of the above Citrix configuration packages and complete the form located here.
