If you would like to request a new program be added to the Citrix server, please contact IT Services at http://go.selkirk.ca and submit an IT Ticket requesting additional software.
Citrix Remote Lab is configured to dynamically connect to any available on campus network storage locations. Users should always store their work on either Selkirk College network shares, or in the cloud. Citrix computer and desktop environments are not shared or saved.
Please save all data to Microsoft OneDrive (or similar cloud storage) or the College network drives.
Citrix is configured to disconnect idle users after 65 minutes of inactivity. If the user does not reconnect within 15 minutes to recover the session then the Citrix session resets.
We request that users log off from Citrix resources when no longer in use to preserve the College resources for all students.
Yes you can although the browser-based version does not have the same level of integration with your local computer (e.g. copy and paste and locally mapped drives inaccessible).
You can use the light version of Citrix Workspace app if you’re not using your work computer or don’t want to download the Citrix Workspace application software on the computer or device you’re using. The light version opens the apps in your browser.
To use the light version:
2. Install the Citrix receiver plugin if prompted
3. Select Detect Receiver
4. The Citrix Home tab should appear upon successful login
Check your OS version from Mac or Windows as described below.
Once you’ve identified the Operating System, go to https://www.citrix.com/downloads/workspace-app/ to download the Citrix Workspace App that is compatible with your computer.
Because the Citrix system is like accessing a remote computer, you cannot use the app until you re-establish your connection.
The remote session will continue in the background for up to 80 minutes. The next time you connect within that 80 minutes, your session will open in the same state it was when you lost the connection.
Press these three keys together: Option + Command + Esc (Escape) or choose Force Quit from the Apple () menu in the upper-left corner of your screen.
Select the Citrix Workspace application in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager with a keyboard shortcut or right-click the Windows taskbar and select “Task Manager.” You can also press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then click “Task Manager” on the screen that appears or find the Task Manager shortcut in your Start menu.
Select the Citrix Workspace application in the Task Manager window, then left-click End Task.
When you are done with your Citrix session it is very important that you log out of the virtual machine or restart it so that it is available for the next person that uses it.
Two ways to log out / restart
Option 1, (my preferred method)
Option 2.
Do NOT click on Disconnect, this will lock the VM until it times out or an IT tech manually resets it. The system will not be available for others to use in this state.. Two reasons why I prefer option 1:
Please never use Disconnect from the start menu, or the drop down at the top of the screen!
