Starting Monday, March 8th, 2021, the Outlook client will be available to all staff.  Go to the Software Centre to download Office 2019 Pro to your computer. Start typing Software Centre in the bottom left search option on your task bar, click on Office 2019 Pro and download. 


There are 2 ways you can access shared mailboxes.

Method 1:

  1. Click on the circle with your initials in the top right of your screen


  2. Click on Open another mailbox


  3. Fill in the mailbox you would like to access.


This will open the mailbox in a new window.

Method 2:

  1. Right Click on the word Folders in your left hand navigation.
  2. Click Add shared folder


  3. Fill in the mailbox you would like to access.
  4. It will appear underneath your inbox.

No, this method is not supported or recommended by Selkirk College.

You can access Outlook on the web starting February 13th, 2021 by going to https://outlook.selkirk.ca  During the week of February 22nd, IT Services will begin to deploy the Outlook Client to Selkirk College owned staff machines through scheduled deployments.  The Outlook Client will not be deployed to personal computers. 

Mac users can access Outlook on the Web.  Please contact the IT Services for more information about the Outlook Client.

The Groupwise email client will be uninstalled after the migration is complete.  General emails, attachments, address books and calendars will migrate over to Outlook.  Archives and cabinet files will not transfer to Outlook.

Up to 50GB with the Outlook desktop client. As always, it is recommended that you keep your mailbox clean to maximize performance. Larger mailboxes will perform slower especially on older computers.

Your user name will remain the same.  Eg. jdoe@selkirk.ca

Microsoft authentication will remember the last Microsoft account you accessed.  To fix this you have 2 options.

1) You can go to portal.office.com and log out of your other emaill and then login with your Selkirk credentials.

2) You can open a private or incognito window and go to outlook.selkirk.ca and login with your Selkirk credentials.

Yes, mail merge is supported by the Outlook mail client. Please contact IT Services should you require assistance.

The Outlook mail client will be installed as part of the Office O365 Suite on your Selkirk College work computer.  You can also access Outlook on the web via your favorite web browser. 

Yes, your Outlook 365 email can be added to your phone providing your email application supports ModernAuth/OAuth2 including the Outlook App on iOS and Android. Note - Only Microsoft Outlook Mail application is officially supported.

The email migration to Outlook will have no impact to students enrolled in Moodle.

Contact IT Services and notify us of the loss / theft. Should the device connect to the internet again, IT Services can remotely wipe the entire phone including email on the device.

Yes, your cabinet folders, emails and attachments will transfer to Outlook.  Any files within your proxy cabinets will not transfer. Instructions on how to save cabinet files for future reference can be found at:  Outlook Email Lunch and Learn

Yes, attachments up to 100 MB will transfer to Outlook. 

Yes, proxy emails will transfer to Outlook. 

Yes, all scheduled appointments will transfer to your Outlook calendar.

No, your trash folder will not be moved over to Outlook. However, you can restore trash emails and drag them from the trash folder to any other folder within your mailbox.  Once migrated to Outlook, Microsoft standards are that messages older than 30 days will be deleted.

Yes, your "work in progress" emails will transfer to your Outlook mailbox.

Yes, your Groupwise address book will transfer over to Outlook address book.

Yes, your personal Groupwise address book will transfer over to your Outlook address book.

That means that you have never archived any emails or files.  You will have one less step to do in your clean up preparation.

No, forwarding Outlook emails to personal email accounts is not supported or allowed by Selkirk College.
